Salmon Burgers Review and Homemade Tartar Sauce

Bowl of Tartar Sauce
This is a review for World Catch Alaskan Salmon Burgers,
but includes a recipe for homemade Tartar Sauce
When I first wrote this post, we had picked up some salmon burgers that we found at Sam's Club: World Catch Wild Alaskan Salmon Burgers.

[Today, we have a Costco membership, instead of Sam's Club, but this review holds true for the salmon burgers sold at Costco today (2018) as well.]

They were wonderful!

Though, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous when we first bought them.

They were round like you'd expect a burger to be, but my eyesight wasn't really good enough to read the ingredients at the store. The print was far too tiny.

When we got home, I was pretty excited to learn that they were Induction friendly, as well as low in carbs, so they will easily fit into your ketogenic plan no matter which stage of the weight-loss process you're at.

At the store, I based my judgment about the thickness of the breading by the amount of carbs they had in them as to just how bready they were going to be.

I'm not real crazy about fish sticks for that reason.

Some pressed fish products can be pretty awful, and light on meat, but the price was right, so we decided to give them a try.

Nutritional Facts for World Catch Wild Alaskan Salmon Burgers

The salmon burgers came in a 10-serving box, which weighed 2-1/2 pounds. The cost was around $9 I think, (in 2007), with each 4-ounce burger being:
  • 250 calories
  • 18 grams of fat
  • 430 mg sodium
  • 22 grams of protein
  • 1 gram of carbohydrate
Ingredients: salmon, water, canola oil, salt, garlic, dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic, paprika, natural mesquite smoke flavor, natural food coloring (beet juice, citric acid), lemon juice concentrate, white pepper.

There was no breading at all!

[Today, 2018, you're going to pay 15 or 16 dollars for 8 to 12 of these salmon patties, but they make a nice easy lunch for the weekends when we're busy.]

After doing a thorough fat study through Fitday.com, 4 ounces salmon by itself contains around 7 grams of fat. So there is a bit of canola oil in these. Keep that in mind when planning out your day.

[This review is specific to the World Catch Alaskan Salmon Burgers, but since I wrote this, we've tried several brands of salmon patties and they have all been non-breaded, Induction-friendly, and fantastic!]

Surprise Company for Dinner!

I loved the convenience of these patties, especially since we had last-minute company for dinner the night I tried them.

Hubby was doing some remodeling for a local boys home, and we were friends with the owner, so he brought her daughter home with him to watch a movie. Our friend showed up after she was done for the day.

It was marvelous that the salmon patties could just go from freezer to oven, without having to thaw them out first. That saved a lot of hassle. And the time it took to cook them from their frozen state? Just 20 minutes!

Whipping up a fresh batch of homemade tartar sauce was also relatively easy.

Here's the recipe for that:

Homemade Tartar Sauce

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp dill relish
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp dehydrated onions or onion powder
Just mix it all together and allow it to sit for a bit if you used dehydrated onions.
